A greeting from Province Governor Anders Tottie

Many districts in the United States of America bear rich witnesses of the valuable work the Swedish immigrants and their descendants have done for the progress and prosperity of society. The communication with the old native country has been retained during the years by friends and relations, memories and traditions. Although there is a great distance between us, the relatives in Sweden and we others, who have our daily work in the parts of Sweden which the emigrants left, have always kept them up in our minds and followed their efforts to make themselves a future in their new country.

Interchange on the domains of scientific research, of students, and mutual visits by different cultural associations, and tourist visits have nowadays revived many of the old bonds between the emigrants and the people in their home districts.

When the Frösö Festival Association has been invited to the United States of America to play the drama 'Arnljot', I, as spokesman of the inhabitants of Jämtland, want to send my kindest regards to the spectators. May the Association be successful in the performance of this distinguished production, created by one of the most well-known composers of Sweden.

It is my hope that the drama with its deep connection to the natural scenery and the history of the country will remind of the native country once common to all of us. Owing to this, may the bonds, which in spite of distance and years nevertheless unite many of the inhabitants of the United States with us in Sweden, grow more and more strong.

Östersund in May 1963.

Anders Tottie
Province Governor
